Meet Dr. Jennifer Montesi
about me
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist providing individual, couple, and family therapy in private practice to those seeking treatment for anxiety and mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), couple and family distress, trauma- and addiction- related issues, and emotion regulation challenges. I earned my Ph.D. at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and completed my internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System in Palo Alto, CA.
I am also a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at UCLA, providing supervision to doctoral level graduate students in training. I also provide trainings on CBT for social anxiety and OCD at various venues in Los Angeles and have authored a number of research papers related to social anxiety, sexual functioning, and intimate relationships. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outdoors, practicing yoga, and playing with my daughter and sons.
Approach to
treatment
I provide an individually-tailored approach to treatment, collaborating with my clients to find ways to meet their specific needs and goals. I make it my work to be warm and accepting, working as a team with each client, couple, or family to make progress toward tangible, visible results. I attempt to challenge existing patterns while also providing encouragement, empathy, and support so that clients feel understood and able to push through what they identify as currently unworkable patterns. When appropriate, I work from an evidence-based framework, providing treatments that have been found to be effective and successful through research studies. My approach to various problems is described on the Services Offered page.
